Services - Laser Therapy a breakthrough in the treatment of gum disease

Laser Periodontal Therapy (LPT) is a non-surgical approach to treating gum disease. LPT can help eliminate infection and heal diseased gum tissue which, if left untreated, can lead to early tooth loss.

Laser periodontal therapy is a breakthrough in the treatment of gum disease. LPT takes some of the most effective periodontal treatments that have been used for many years and enhances them with the conservative use of a laser. Laser Therapy is performed in conjunction with periodontal maintainence, scaling and root planing, or as an adjunct to traditional surgery.

We use Laser Therapy to preserve as much of the healthy gum tissue as possible, maintain the height of the gums around the teeth, and minimize the discomfort to the patient. Dr. Altschuler has been certified by the World Clinical Laser Institute in Laser Therapy.

How does it work?

The laser generates a tiny beam of concentrated light energy. This energy sterilizes the area, removes diseased tissue only, and may improve reattachment and regeneration of periodontal tissues.  In addition, lasers seal off blood vessels and nerve endings during a procedure reducing bleeding and discomfort.

While surgery is still indicated for many patients, laser therapy may be a conservative, effective option for selective periodontal cases.

What are the benefits?

  • Faster healing
  • Minimal pain means little to no anesthesia needed
  • Minimal post-op discomfort
  • Less bleeding
  • Reduced risk of infection - laser virtually sterilizes the periodontal pocket
  • Decreased sensitivity
